- God allows the temple to be taken by invaders in 605 BC
- The King of Babylon takes the best and brightest of their captives to serve him
- Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah were drafted into the training program for the king. They were teenagers. They were given new names as well: Belteshazzar, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
- They were educated in Babylonian culture and offered food and drink from the king’s table
- Daniel asked for a dietary accommodation from a chief official.
- In Acts 10, God abolishes the distinction between clean and unclean in the future (in relation to Daniel’s time)
- God will enable you to be faithful, even in the midst of exile.
- We have dual citizenships in the kingdom of God and in the world that we live. Sometimes our identities press against each other.
- Daniel and the other guys with him were seen as exemplary compared to the others in similar service to the king.
