Listen to Pastor Steve Hoden speak about Daniel and his captive status and identity. This is also communion Sunday.

Notes Taken:

  • The Book of Daniel
  • Fasting
  • How would you answer the question, “Who are you?”
  • How do we maintain our identity in God in the face of resistance and stress?
  • You are called, “Child of God”
  • God allows the temple to be taken by invaders in 605 BC
  • The King of Babylon takes the best and brightest of their captives to serve him
  • Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah were drafted into the training program for the king. They were teenagers. They were given new names as well: Belteshazzar, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
  • They were educated in Babylonian culture and offered food and drink from the king’s table
  • Daniel asked for a dietary accommodation from a chief official.
  • In Acts 10, God abolishes the distinction between clean and unclean in the future (in relation to Daniel’s time)
  • God will enable you to be faithful, even in the midst of exile.
  • We have dual citizenships in the kingdom of God and in the world that we live. Sometimes our identities press against each other.
  • Daniel and the other guys with him were seen as exemplary compared to the others in similar service to the king.
  • Your identity as a “Child of God” is first
  • Closing Prayer
